Hello and welcome to I Went Somewhere!

Our travels take us to India where we'll learn some great tips and tricks about this amazing place in the world.

So get those pencils sharpened and your notepads out, because today we're going to India!

Hello! Tell us a little bit about you and where you traveled to...

Hello! I’m Lauren :D

I’m an Aussie who loves to travel! My most recent trip was to India!

I traveled to India in October 2022 and stayed for 10 weeks!

I took part in a Yoga Teacher Training course in Rishikesh, did a two week tour of Rajasthan with a friend and spent a month traveling around in Goa!

How great was the trip?

I visited Rishikesh were I completed a 200hr yoga teacher training. Rishikesh is known as the Yoga Capital of the World! Temples, Ashrams, The Ganga River, Vegetarian and Vegan foods are just some of the amazing things that Rishikesh has to offer!

I also visited the near by hill station of Mussoorie, also known as ‘Queen of the Hills’. The drive to Mussoorie lead us up through the mountains with the most amazing views of the Himalayan mountain ranges 🤩 The Golden Temple in Amritsar! A famous and sacred site of Sikhism.

The community kitchen offers a meal to everyone and serves over 100,000 people a day!

Touring Rajasthan! What an experience this was. From Forts, Castles, Temples, Palaces, Safari’s and so much more!

The tour also included visiting The Taj Mahal in Agra!

I spent the last few weeks in Goa! Taking part in a tantra festival, practicing yoga, making friends, exploring beautiful beaches and celebrating New Year’s Eve!

What did you do while you were there?

Rishikesh Vinyasa Yoga School - this is the company I did the yoga teaching training with. I would highly recommend this school. Great teachers, delicious food and fun excursions! I made life long friendships here and learnt a lot about myself and yoga!

Swastik India Journeys - The tour company we went with for the Tour of Rajasthan!

We did the Taj Mahal and Rajasthan with Royal Stay at Castles tour! A 14 day tour which included accommodation, driver, tour guides and some meals. English speaking and we got a great deal on this tour! Tipping is customary in India. I recommend having small bills on you at all times and even some food to offer to children. I would buy extra fruit from markets :)

How did you learn and prepare for this trip?

I did some research online when looking into where I wanted to visit in India. Reading reviews, watching a lot YouTube videos and I also asked for advice from friends I have here in Australia who had visited India before.

How did you get there?

I flew with Singapore Airlines from Brisbane Airport in Queensland, Australia.

Where and what did you eat?

The food in India is amazing!! I loved all the food!

One tip is if the restaurant or cafe is busy, it should be good to eat in. I would also Google the area I was in to look at reviews.

Would you go back and do it again?

I loved India so much that I’m already planning my next trip :D

Advice for people planning to do something similar?

Download WhatsApp as this is the main way to communicate with hotels, businesses and taxi drivers. A travel ATM card to get money out.

Booking accommodation could be cheaper while you are there as you can negotiate a price!

Where can we go to connect with you?
